Aren't there any sites on the entire fucking internet that don't have the acccessibility code with no audio? I've been searching for at least an hour for social networking sites where I can make friends and join groups and found some good ones, even free ones! But every! single! one! had one of those fucking codes and no audio. So do any exist aside from LiveJournal (which is mostly for blogging) and Google Groups (which is really specific and email based)? Thanks. Btw, I heard that if you save the image and send it to a sighted friend, he/she could tell you what it is and you could use it. Is this true if you keep the page where it is and don't refresh it etc?
Haven’t been there in a very long time, but when I signed up at Tickle.com, there was no accessibility problems. It’s been a few years, but you may have luck there.
I doubt emailing the image to a friend would work unless you were able to do it and get a response pretty fast. Most sites will time you out after a while so that you have to start over again.
facebook now has audio. just figured i'd put it out there.
also, the people were varry helpfull there and helped me make an acount back a few years ago.
Ooh! Thanks. I'll have to try that. Also, I found a good free site.

They take a bit of getting used to with JFW (haven't tried them with Hal) but they're pretty decent. However, don't try them on a Mac. It's a nightmare, unless, maybe, you learn the layout first. But the staff there are very nice and I think that maybe if there are more blind people there, we could help them help us. Btw, no! varification! codes! Me like.
Some verification codes change every minute so there's no way you can use the same one if you wait five minutes.
By the way, Facebook rocks my socks!
What is facebook? Is it just a blog like lj cause I'm already a member there and would feel weird having to start another blog. If not, then what else do they have? Everyone keeps talking about it!
It's kind of like my space but way easier to use. You can leave comments on "walls" and add various applications. You can join regional or school networks. It's a great way to find old classmates or friends you already know.
I don't know much about myspace, only that it's a bit like LiveJournal. So it sounds like facebook is somewhat similar. Do they have specific communities or something?
You could keep a blog on there but most people i know go on there for the groups and writing messages to each other.
I like http://www.blind-planet.com and it is for te blind.
I'll try it, but I was looking for a more mainstream site. I found a nice Greek-related one, but it had a captia with no audio.
Ok, I'm trying to join this site and am very confused by their captia. It has a bunch of letters with spaces and then gives you choices. All of the choices are correct in that they're part of the code. So do they want the first part, the middle part, the last part? I don't get this.
For those of you wanting to try facebook, their audio captia is absolutely discusting, just like AOL. It'll probably take me at least ten tries to do this. Whenever I attempt to type in the characters, they say I'm incorrect. Maybe, it's cause I'm typing them in Wordpad and then pasting them in? I'm gonna try directly typing them in but I think this kind of audio is a mockery of the system and insulting to the blind. It's basically one in which you have a different person saying each letter/number and loud voices in the background speaking backwards etc.
It's supposed to be distorted like the print one. I thought it wasn't that bad. Way better than hotmail.
Yeah, but I don't get it. They show you the letters and all the options fit with part of the code.
I got a bunch of numbers when I signed up.
Maybe contact them?
I had no problems signing up with facebook. I typed the numbers into notepad and then just pasted them in. It worked perfectly.
No! lol I was actually talking about the blind-planet site. I haven't tried facebook. It's actually the blind site that's screwing me up. But I did manage to find a really good social networking site and they're very accessible. I'd paste my referal code here but am not sure if it's allowed. Still, because it's such a good site, I'll write the regular link.

Btw, I have the other link in my LiveJournal and that address is right in my profile here. Either rway, have fun.
